Welcome to fxchurch!

Worship Service: Sundays at 10:10AM
Location: Banneker Community Center, 930 W 7th St. Bloomington, IN 47404

We would love to have you join us for a Sunday Worship Service! We desire that all believers in Jesus be a member of a local Bible believing church and if not ours we pray you would commit somewhere.

Below are some FAQ’s that will hopefully be able to answer any questions that you may have about our church. We would ask that you Register Your Visit at the button below which just lets us be able to know your name and how to contact you so that we can best serve, pray and connect with you.

  • Our worship starts at 10:10am and most people start walking in the door about 9:55am.

  • Street parking is typically available right along N Elm St for visitors. Parking is also available along W 7th St, W 8th St, W 9th St, The Girls Inc. lot, and Rev. Ernest Butler Park. Please do not park in the Full House Fitness lot.

Please enter the Banneker through the side doors down the ramp on N Elm St.

  • Yes, the building is accessible. Our worship service and the restrooms are all on the main level. Enter down the ramp on Elm Street side of the building. The Kids Ministry goes to the 3rd floor during the sermon and there is an elevator.

The Banneker Community Center was built in 1915 so it does have some quirks that we are unable to change since it is a historic building and we do not own it but everywhere that we utilize on Sundays is accessible.

  • You will find many folks are dressed casually. Our Pastors regularly preach in jeans and a button down.

  • Our services typically wrap up by 11:45am, however it can vary depending on the scripture for that week.

  • A typical service at fxchurch will begin with a few songs of praise and worship, followed by a welcome, announcements, and prayer. Then a greeting time and the younger kids are dismissed to meet their leader to go upstairs for a lesson. Guests are invited back to their seats for the message.

We preach expositional messages with a strong emphasis on the text. We prefer to do series that go through a book of the Bible, chapter-by-chapter and verse-by-verse. (On June 29, 2025, we finished our Isaiah series and with that, have now gone through the entire Bible. We have started over and are going through the Bible again.)

Following the message, we typically will sing one or two closing songs and have a benediction. The kids lesson wraps up at the same time as the service.

  • No, but you can expect to have folks introduce themselves and get to know you.

  • We have a hospitality table every week that has coffee and some small food/snacks that is available for anyone in attendance.

  • We do not serve the Lord’s Supper (communion) on a weekly basis. We regularly practice it on the Jewish festivals and some U.S. holidays. You can see our calendar here.

When we serve the Lord’s Supper, we practice open communion meaning that you do not have to be a member to partake. If you have surrendered your life to Jesus and have examined yourself that you are in right standing with God and thankful to Him, then you may take it.

There is no pressure to partake in the Lord’s Supper, and we would encourage and ask that if your heart isn’t right with God, that you do not partake. We typically announce the Lord’s Supper weeks in advance so that you can take the time leading up to prepare your heart.

  • No, we would love for you to attend, even if you are not a Christian. We would ask that you come with an open mind, are respectful to others, and a desire to learn more about Jesus.

Also it is important to recognize that we gather on Sundays primarily for the worship of our God and for the benefit, function and edification of our church body of believers. We still welcome non-Christians on Sundays and hope you feel welcomed and are able to learn more about Jesus during your visit. We would love to schedule a time to meet with you outside of Sunday morning and answer any questions you may have.

If you do not have a Bible, we would love to gift you a physical Bible that you can keep. Just ask one of the pastors during your visit.

  • You will find all kinds of people at fxchurch. People from 5 different continents around the world. People of different generations and stages of life. People with different jobs, hobbies, interests.

But the commonality you will find amongst our members is a shared love and devotion to Jesus Christ and His Word, the Bible.

  • fxchurch offers a kids’ ministry for kids who may not be able to sit through or understand the sermon. During the greeting time, parents can bring their children to the back to meet their leader and will go upstairs to the 3rd floor for a lesson and activities.

fxchurch offers a Nursing Mothers/Cry Room available for mom’s to have a quiet and private space to take their baby during the service if needed. There are places to sit and the Livestream of the service is shown on a TV.

  • fxchurch has a Kids’ Check-In table where parents will fill out a Check In sticker. Parents should place part of the sticker on the child’s back with Name, Parent Name, Parent Phone Number, and any allergies or things the leader needs to know. The other half of the check in sticker should remain with the parent who will pick up their child following the service.

  • You can watch past livestreams of our Sunday Services on our YouTube channel.

You can listen to past sermons on the fxtalk podcast, available online and most major podcast platforms.

  • Our music is best described as contemporary with depth. We use a live band and sing many songs that you’ll recognize from modern Christian artists. At the same time, we place a high value on historic hymns from the 1800s and earlier—sometimes in their traditional form, other times with fresh arrangements.

What matters most to us is congregational worship, not performance. The band serves as directors, but the true choir is the whole congregation, singing together for an audience of One—God on His throne.

You’ll also occasionally hear original songs written to accompany our Bible-based message series. Scripture instructs us to sing “psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs” (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16), so we intentionally include music rooted in Scripture itself (psalms), expresses the core truths of the faith (hymns), and gives voice to the testimony of following Christ (spiritual songs). We worship in spirit and and in truth (John 4:23-24), and only sing music that has strong and obvious ties to scripture.

As part of our convictions, we avoid trends in modern worship that focuses on performance, emphasizes personal declaration over corporate expression, or creates a mystical atmosphere detached from reality. Instead, our worship is about the whole church family singing together—truthfully and joyfully—in anticipation of Christ’s return.

One unique feature of our church is that about one in every ten members serves as a worship leader. Our team of pastoral and lay leaders plan, prepare, pray, and call the congregation to lift their voices in corporate praise.

  • Yes—we write and record original music under the name fxband, a collective of musicians connected to fxchurch. While it isn’t “worship music” in the modern industry sense, it can best be described as Bible music: songs that retell the stories of the prophets and apostles with a modern hook and sound. Our style blends acoustic folk and piano-driven vintage tones, drawing listeners into the pages of Scripture in fresh and creative ways.

You can find fxband on Bandcamp, as well as major streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube (where CDs are also available), with vinyl coming soon. Our debut album, The Jeremiah Demos • vol. I, releases on Rosh Hashanah (5786), with another project scheduled for November 13, 2025, marking the tenth anniversary of the Paris bombings and reflecting on the long history of human conflict—brother against brother, family against family, nation against nation, and faith against faith. We are only getting started, with 20 projects in the pipeline.

  • The first point of connection would be to Register Your Visit when you come for the first time. This form allows you to share a little information about yourself and our staff will reach out to you during the following week to see how we can serve you.

You can go through our Class One membership class that is available online to learn what we believe as a local church and how to become a member at fxchurch. Our staff is available and would love to answer any questions that arise from Class One.

We also encourage members and attenders to be a part of a small group (re:group). These groups meet throughout the week for a Bible study and time of fellowship.

  • Yes, we have small groups that meet throughout the week and one specifically for college students which is help on IU’s campus. Each group meets for Bible study and a time of fellowship. We do also have a group that meets for a prayer time on Zoom every Tuesday and Thursday morning.

You check out the groups and how to join here.

  • fxchurch believes in The Bible as a divinely inspired book without error. As a Southern Baptist Church, we have adopted the teachings of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

You can learn more about what we believe through our Class One membership class, available online.

  • fxchurch is an independent and non-denominational church. fxchurch is a cooperating member of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), the State Convention of Baptists in Indiana (SCBI), and the White River Baptist Association.

The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is not a denomination but a friendly cooperation of like-minded independent and autonomous local churches cooperating together to fulfill the Great Commission and reach the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

  • The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is not a denomination but a friendly cooperation of like-minded independent and autonomous local churches cooperating together to fulfill the Great Commission and reach the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ. There are more than 50,000 Southern Baptist churches in the United States.

  • We partner and cooperate with the Southern Baptist Convention because we believe in the power of partnership for the sake of the Gospel. Through the SBC Cooperative Program, we are able to support, train, and send missionaries across the Globe to every tribe, tongue and nation. The International Mission Board (IMB) is the largest missionary-sending organization in the world and the IMB exists through the funding and partnerships of SBC churches.

fxchurch gives 15% of our general offering to missions in three distinct areas: Mission Partnerships, Mission Offerings, and Mission Opportunities. Mission Partnerships goes to the Cooperative Program global missions effort and to support our local association. Mission Offerings go directly to supporting international, national, and state missions. Mission Opportunities includes support for other missions causes including local missions.

We remain an independent and autonomous church as an Southern Baptist church because the SBC is not a denomination but a cooperation of independent churches.

  • The church is a community of believers, not a brick and mortar building. The earliest of churches met in the catacombs and the idea of a church building is something that is relatively new in the history of the church. Under the New Covenant, the temple is the human heart and not a physical building.

If we ever owned or built a building, we would open a community center. Renting allows us to keep our facility expenses low and allows us to give more away to missions. At fxchurch, we give 15% of every dollar given to the general offering away to missions.

It is the same reason that 3 of our pastors are bi-vocational and work other jobs. It is so that we can take less from the church in order to give more away to missions.

  • We are not against buildings or churches having buildings, but the building can sometimes become the priority and focus of the church, rather than being obedient to God’s Word and fulfilling the Great Commission.

It is not in our plans to build or purchase a building because we as a church try to avoid debt and want to give away more money towards missions. fxchurch gives 15% of every dollar given to the general offering away to missions.

If the Lord wills it and provides a way for us to have a building, praise God. But we have no plans to purchase or build one any time soon.
If we ever do have a building campaign to raise money, we will ask you all to “join us in slavery to the bank” and we will build a community center.
