About
Foot of the Cross is fxchurch, formed in 2007 via national, state, and local partnerships to impact the campus at Indiana University. We continue to do ministry through the prayerful and financial generosity of cooperating believers. The church operates on IU’s campus as fxcampus, gathers collectively on Sundays to worship, and meets in other locations throughout the community during the week to re:group. We desire to reach our campus and community with the good news about Jesus, and strive to be multigenerational and multiethnic.
Pastors/Staff
Mat Shockney
Lead Pastor
Mat is the Lead Pastor at fxchurch. Pointed to faith by his grandparents and parents, he surrender to Jesus at Ball State his freshman year. He was called to serve the bride of Christ in April 1994 and his bride Susan in November 1995. Mat is a native Hoosier having served in vocational ministry in Indiana for over 30 years as a camp missionary, collegiate missionary, youth, discipleship, worship, associate, lead, and church planting pastor. Mat’s greatest joy is hearing that God’s children, including his 2 grandchildren, 3 children, and 2 son-in-laws, are walking in the truth. (3 John 1:4) You can find him doing construction, repairing things, reading, learning, enjoying music, sharing God’s word, and discipling men. He has acted as the president of the Campus Religious Leaders Association at IU, served on the Executive Board for the State Convention of Baptists in Indiana, and moderator for the White River Baptist Association of Churches.
Associate Pastor,
Arts + Business
Jason is the founding arts pastor of fxchurch, plays guitar and keyboard, has developed over a dozen worship leaders in over 30 years of ministry, and is working on several music projects simultaneously, you can listen to on Bandcamp. He also handles the business and finance side of the church, and leads a re:group. His day job is providing managed IT to businesses operating on the Apple brand as President of Xforte Co. He’s been married to his college sweetheart Joanna for over 30 years and they have four children, Bray, Sydney, Isabel and Coda.
Associate Pastor,
Youth + Missions
Bryan Hillard is an Associate Pastor at fxchurch and leads youth ministry and missions. He has been a member of the church since shortly after moving to Bloomington in 2016. He accepted Christ in 2004 and began serving in youth ministry in 2013. He is married to Lorna Hillard and they have 2 children, Jase and Adria. Bryan’s day/night/weekend job is being the General Manager at The District Tap in downtown Indianapolis.
Associate Pastor,
College + Communications
Luke is an Associate Pastor at fxchurch and leads our collegiate ministry and digital communications. Born and raised in Mishawaka IN, Luke committed his life to Christ at an early age and grew up serving in his local church. He moved to Bloomington and fxchurch as a student at Indiana University in 2016. While at IU, Luke started working at fxchurch as an intern in 2017 and was a student leader in fxCampus Ministry. Luke spent two summers working as a summer missionary at Highland Lakes Baptist Camp where he met his wife, Annie. Luke and Annie have one son, Judah. Luke currently works full-time during the week as the Associate Director for Recruitment in the IU School of Optometry.

Cooperative Giving
The church is committed to cooperating with outside agencies and missionaries to SHOW Christ to the Acts 1:8 world. We give 15% of our general offering to missions in three distinct areas: Mission Partnerships, Mission Offerings, and Mission Opportunities. Mission Partnerships goes to the Cooperative Program global missions effort and to support our local association. Mission Offerings go directly to supporting international, national, and state missions. Mission Opportunities includes support for other missions causes including local missions.
